Yes!!! Lol, I'm a farmer and a baker myself, so of course this would resonate with me. We're fortunate here in Maine to have Maine Grains (not too far from my home, too!), buying grains grown in this state and milling them locally. They do make and sell fabulous breads at the granary also, but I buy their stone-ground flours and bake my own. Thank you for promoting the notion that not everything in life needs to be convenient or easy! Sometimes things are worth the effort, and look what you create when you do! A spectrum of benefits...

I hear you on the need to stay local. I inhabit two worlds, Phoenix and the small Maine island where I grew up, and it’s imminently more difficult finding a community vibe in the big city. The general store on the island is basically the social network where we swap recipes and gardening tips over a slice of pie and coffee. I’m trying hard to capture that each time I return to Arizona but it remains elusive.

Well next time you're in Phoenix, I'd love to meet you at Hayden Flour Mills to pick up some bread :) I totally hear you about the difficulty of finding the small town feeling in bigger areas. To this day the best farmer's market I've ever attended was the one in Moscow, ID, which I went to while living in a WA town nearby. The area was so remote that everyone converged for the one main farmers market, rather than the effect in Phx with many many farmers markets spread out over the sprawl of the city + suburbs.

I actually did the Factor thing ones and it was so much plastic film and not enough food. Not trying to bash it, etc., but the way these "services" that are "dietician approved" purport to provide all that you need is really suspect and doesn't take into account that people need different things and different quantities at different times. The one perk was that I learned I like blanched green beans and now believe that is the only way to cook them lol.
