Calling food friends! Feminist Food Friends is a collaborative space for food-minded people and we’re hosting an online holiday mingler and recipe swap on December 15th at 7 am PT/10 am ET/3 pm GMT/4 pm CET. The idea is that we will each bring a recipe that has meant something to us this year to spark ideas and conversation as we reflect on the highs and lows of a globally tumultuous year. Paid subscribers to any of the above newsletters get in for free (find the code here) and tickets are available on a sliding scale. Bring questions and snacks!

Sarah Ruhl wrote in her essay On Interruptions, “At the end of the day, writing has very little to do with writing, and much to do with life. And life, by definition, is not an intrusion.” I try to remember this as I’m working in concert with my husband and four kids to get dinner on the table. Especially since we share the labor, chaos ensues.
I started this series to pay attention to all of dinner, not simply the cooking. The space of a day is large, unpredictable, and dinner is one of many things to be done—all the more reason to have meals that lean on the pantry. Read Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five, Part Six, Part Seven, Part Eight.
Today’s edition features oven bean and cheese tacos (good for 8-year-old hands to make), getting some fresh air, and…if you read closely you’ll see I didn’t even eat what was “for” dinner.
